Northstar Career Center serves juniors, seniors and young adults with disabilities under the age of 24 to help them gain work readiness skills as they transition out of secondary education and into the workforce. Students enrolled at the Career Center not only come from the Academy but also the Greater Richmond area.
Northstar Career Center proudly collaborates with both public and private schools to offer technical education to their students. Additionally, Northstar Career Center enhances homeschool education programs.
Northstar Career Center offers vocational programs.
At Northstar, we are dedicated to empowering students with disabilities through a comprehensive array of vocational programs designed to foster independence, confidence, and career readiness. Our programs are tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student providing hands-on training and real-world experience in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Family Education Nights
Northstar Career Center aims to offer accurate information and community resources to support individuals and families in navigating the transition to adulthood. Each year, Northstar hosts six virtual family education nights that are free and open to the public. This year’s topics include:
1. Supported employment
2. Supported decision-making agreements
3. Legal and financial planning
4. Post-Secondary programs
5. Independent living
6. Job searching

Northstar Career Center is a service provider for the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). If you’re working with DARS, we can help.
Northstar Career Center prepares students for the next step in life.
In addition to providing industry skills for competitive careers, Northstar Career Center teaches students essential skills such as work-flow management, how to ask for and use accommodations, workplace social skills and independent living. All of these skills are transferable to a post-secondary program.
