Setting Course for the Future

Northstar Career Center serves young adults with disabilities ages 16 – 24 to help them gain work readiness skills as they transition into the workforce. We are dedicated to empowering students through a comprehensive array of vocational programs designed to foster independence, confidence, and career readiness. Students not only come from within Northstar Academy, but also public and private schools in the Greater Richmond area. Additionally, Northstar Career Center enhances homeschool education programs.

Career Center Highlights

  • A focus on careers that are in-demand in the local economy, are projected to grow, and can offer competitive wages
  • Gaining real-life experience by practicing skills at community partner worksites
  • Essential life skills such as work-flow management, how to ask for and use accommodations, workplace social skills, and independent living
  • Opportunities to earn nationally recognized industry credentials
  • Small group instruction in the classroom with individualized supports at worksites
  • Countdown to Employment (CTE), a proprietary initiative to guide students and families as they navigate a path to employment. CTE combines direct instruction, collaboration with families, and student-centered planning meetings.

Northstar Career Center proudly partners with public and private schools to provide technical education for their students. Northstar Career Center also compliments a homeschool education, providing workforce education and experience. 

Northstar Career Center is a service provider for the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). If you’re working with DARS, we can help.

Northstar Career Center equips students with industry skills for competitive careers while also teaching essential competencies such as workflow management, self-advocacy for accommodations, workplace social skills, and independent living. Its curricula are designed to systematically remove barriers to employment by providing hands-on industry experience, fostering workplace efficiency, and building transferable skills for post-secondary success.
