Northstar's Transformative Capital Campaign

Exciting Updates - We’re Almost There!

We’re excited to share that Northstar’s new gymnasium, community room, and athletic field are nearing completion, bringing our vision for an inclusive, inspiring campus closer than ever. Thanks to generous donors, we’ve already raised $12.5 million of our $13.6 million goal—over 91% of the way there!

Right now, drywall and brick walls are going up, and we’re proud to be the first school gym in Virginia with a hearing loop, enhancing inclusivity for all. Over the next month, the track and field will start to take shape.

More than just bricks and mortar, this new space will have a profound impact on our students.  The new gymnasium and community room will allow students to return to eating lunch together again, fostering a sense of community that encourages social interaction, play, and practice of vital social skills.  Our growing cheer club is eager to practice in the new gym as they prepare to welcome back and cheer on our basketball team. It’s crucial that we provide our students with experiences similar to those in other schools.

As we approach the end of this campaign, we need your help.  Before December 15, we need to raise $50,000 to avoid additional financing costs. Will you consider making a gift or pledge today?

Campaign Overview

Northstar sees students for who they are today and who they can become tomorrow. As Northstar looks toward its own future, we seek to create a school that provides the best possible learning environment.

To realize this vision, in 2020 the Board of Directors launched a Capital Campaign to support the acquisition of a new facility and campus site.

Excitingly, a property fitting the diverse needs of our School community was identified in 2021, and a year later in September 2022, we officially opened our doors to students at Nuckols Road. At last our Academic and Career Center campuses have been merged into one location.

In addition to EDC, Baskervill, and Youngblood Tyler, CT Purcell is working to complete our track and field. We’ve also hired RVA Construction to build our gymnasium and community center. We are on target to open the new space in the fall of 2024.

We are currently fundraising for the last $1.1M to finish the approximately 15,000 sq ft gymnasium and community room.

The gymnasium will be used daily for physical education classes. In addition, it will allow us to host school assemblies and performances, as well as graduations on campus. We are excited to be one of the first in our area to install a hearing loop in the floor that will help those with hearing impairments.

Your support is directly helping Northstar promote educational excellence and career opportunities for students with disabilities.  We couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you to all our amazing donors who have already supported the campaign.
