About Northstar
A glimpse into Northstar's campus.
Promoting educational excellence and career opportunities for students with disabilities
Northstar is proud to offer two premier programs — Northstar Academy and Northstar Career Center — for students who have a disability and face academic, physical or social challenges. While our students each face unique challenges, with specialized instruction, small classroom sizes, and highly qualified faculty, we are proud to help students of all abilities achieve their greatest potential.
NorthstarAcademy
Northstar Academy is our academic program that serves students in grades K-12. The Academy provides students with a full school experience including: clubs, sports and yearly traditions.
NorthstarCareer Center
Northstar Career Center serves juniors, seniors and young adults from the Academy and the Greater Richmond area and prepares them for competitive employment through hands-on learning.
The premier school for learning differences in Central Virginia.
Northstar serves students with a wide range of abilities, including 12 of the 13 disabilities identified by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
To ensure each student is challenged within their ability, Northstar practices differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and hands-on worksite experience allowing students to not only learn skills but apply them to their everyday lives.
We do this because students benefit from learning from each other’s strengths. When students of different abilities collaborate, natural leaders emerge and students stretch each other beyond their comfort zones.

Community for All
With a strong spirit of community, we develop students with active, creative minds and encourage compassion and a respect and understanding for individual differences and for one another.
“We are absolutely thrilled with our son’s progress since he has joined the Northstar family. His confidence has increased and for the first time in his life, HE HAS FRIENDS.”
